Why did a Republican congress and George W. Bush do away with PAYGO?

Are Republicans not concerned about debt?

Because we had a war to win. Nobody likes debt but we can tolerate it when the country is in danger. But it has to be a short erm thing with a viable plan to pay it off. The debt got a little out of control and that is why republican voters stopped backing the GOP in 2006. But then the democrats got into office and rather than reducing the debt it exploded. Now that they have the white house too deficits are higher than ever imagined. Now the days of Bush’s moderate overspending that we thought was so bad at the time, feels like the good old days.

The problem isn’t PAYGO, its the amount of GO we have for the amount of PAY we have available.

It doesn’t matter if the government received 3 times as much revenue, we would just have 3 times as much spending.
