Did Congress recently pass tax relief on phantom income homeowners get when they sell their house at a loss?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under congress | 2 Comments »

If a homeowner sells at a loss because the market has dropped, but his ARM has kicked in and his payments have gotten too high for him to pay, the "write-off" of part of his loan is counted by the IRS as income. This phantom income is taxable. I thought I heard that Congress passed a bill which stops this taxation. True?

Yes, in fact, VERY recently.

The House Ways and Means Committee just voted to remove a tax on forgiven debt as a result of selling a home at a loss. Apparently there are a lot of people who are being forclosed on or forced to sell their homes in "short sales" to avoid forclosure. If the sale is not enough to cover the loan, there is something left for the home owner to pay, and banks sometimes forgive this amount and cancels it.

Forgiven debts are normally treated as taxable income when the taxpayer is not in bankruptcy or insolvent. The House has now relaxed this rule so that home owners who are distressed won’t be caught in a painful position of paying taxes on income they never saw while suffering the loss of their home.

I didn’t see the effective date or if the decision will be backdated.

Who sponsored the new bill in Congress to give illegal aliens amnesty?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under congress | 4 Comments »

Another bill has been introduced in Congress that would give amnesty to the 12 million illegal aliens believed to be in the United States. Does anyone know who introduced the bill? I am being told it is not getting any support but I believe it is important that we all know about it and that we reemphasize our strong opposition to any amnesty for any illegals to our elected officials. Who introduced this bill and have you contacted your elected officials to see that it is defeated?

your are right there is no support and the main stream news media wont even waste there time reporting it. but if you must know its another attempt by a hispanic to legalize illegal immigrants. even the mexican ambassador acknowledges it will never happen. and that is a fact jack

Pictures don’t lie and our next story is an excellent example at how our politicians excel at theatrics. Upset over the violence that took place over the visit of Congress MP Y S Jagan Reddy to the district a Congress MLA and sworn YSR supporter, Konda Surekha attempted to take her own life in front of the cameras. But did she really???? Take a look.

What ways has Congress tried to legislate limitations on the influence of interest groups?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under congress | 1 Comment »

Basically I tried looking it up but I can’t find it and I just need three examples! (My book doesn’t have the answer because my teacher uses mostly online resources, this being one of them).

Heres the exact question: List three ways that Congress has tried to legislate limitations on the influence of interest groups.

The only one i know of is the Hatch Act, which put limitations on PAC’s contributions to federal campaigning ads.

The ability to listen to those they represent – whatever their issues may be.

Congress wants to do away with secret ballots for unionizations?

Posted by admin on May 23rd, 2010 and filed under congress | 11 Comments »

So they want to make everyone in a unionization situation say openly how they voted? How odd that congress then has so many secret ballots and votes. Does this not smell a little hypocritical to anyone besides me?

No, it does not smell a "little" hypocritical. It STINKS of hypocrisy.

The whole concept of a secret ballot is to avoid the threat of intimidation. This initiative guarantees intimidation. This is a marxist proposal.
